There’s something cheerful about a plant hanging in a sunny window, swaying a little whenever someone walks by. This small watercolor from 2021 is all about that feeling.
A sage-green pot sits snug in a knotted macramé hanger, with three wooden beads just below the loop at the top. Inside, a plant with pink-speckled leaves fills the pot, a few long green leaves spill over the rim, and one curly shoot reaches up toward the ceiling. Behind it, washes of pink, rose, and lavender bleed into each other, so the background glows almost like a sunset.
The outlines are drawn by hand and the watercolor is left loose, so you can see where the paint pooled and dried. That soft, slightly unpredictable texture is something you only really get with watercolor.
It’s a sweet fit for a plant lover’s space: a sunroom, kitchen, bathroom, or a narrow stretch of wall by a doorway, since the painting itself is tall and slim. It goes well with blush, mauve, and sage, or it can be the one pop of color on a plain white wall. It also makes a thoughtful gift for the friend whose windowsill is already full of plants.
Choosing a size
This painting is tall and slim, so these sizes match its shape. A thin strip is trimmed from the sides to fit.
- 4×8: a small piece for a shelf, windowsill, or the narrow spot beside a door.
- 5×10: a little larger, great for a skinny stretch of wall, a bathroom, or next to a real hanging plant. Fits a 5×10 frame.
