Night Tree – Oil Painting Print

There’s a certain kind of night where the sky never gets fully dark. The clouds hang low and catch whatever light is around, and everything underneath turns into a silhouette. That’s the night I wanted to paint here.

Big, rolling clouds stack up across the sky in layers of lavender, violet, and soft white, with a few hints of deep plum along their undersides. A lone cloud in the top right corner glows a little brighter than the rest, like it’s lit from behind. The sky behind them is a dusky periwinkle blue.

Down below, a wide old tree stands in solid, dark silhouette, its branches spreading out into a lacy edge against the clouds. On the left, a pair of telephone poles and their sagging power lines stretch across the scene, a small, familiar detail that makes it feel like a quiet street on the edge of town.

Oil paint stays wet for a long time, which let me soften and blend the clouds so they feel puffy and full, while the tree stays crisp and dark against them. The canvas texture shows through, and that carries into the print.

It’s a moody, peaceful piece for a bedroom, home office, or reading corner, anywhere you want something a little calmer and darker on the wall. The purples and blues look great with charcoal, navy, silver, and crisp white, and it really stands out in a black frame with a white mat like the original.

Choosing a size

• 5×7: a small piece for a nightstand, shelf, or desk, or a gift tucked in with a card. The top and bottom edges are trimmed slightly to fit this shape.
• 8×10: fits a standard 8×10 frame, or an 11×14 frame with a mat. The sides are trimmed slightly to fit this shape.
• 16×20: big enough to hang on its own over a bed or desk. Fits a standard 16×20 frame. The sides are trimmed slightly to fit this shape.

Caring for your print

Frame it behind glass or acrylic to keep dust and fingerprints off, and hang it out of direct sunlight so the colors stay rich.
